Permission Is Not Coming, And That Might Be the Best News Ever

Here's the truth about me:
I don't think I was ever really waiting for permission to be myself.
I might not have always spoken up. I might have stayed quiet in certain rooms. I might have chosen peace over confrontation more times than I can count.
But even then… I was still me.
I still knew what I wanted. I still felt what I felt. I still moved in ways that were true to me, even if they were quieter than they are now.
And I know not everyone has had that experience.
I know there are people who have spent years waiting for permission.
Permission to want more. Permission to be louder. Permission to change their mind. Permission to take up space. Permission to be yourself. Permission to stop explaining themselves to people who were never going to understand them anyway.
And here's the thing I'm learning:
Permission to Be Yourself Is Not Coming
Not because we don't deserve it. Not because we're doing something wrong. But because the life we actually want usually starts when we stop waiting for someone else to hand us the green light.
Even for someone like me, who always had a strong sense of self, there's still been a shift.
Because knowing who you are and fully expressing it are two different things.
I used to think being "good" meant being agreeable. Keeping the peace. Not rocking the boat. Making sure everyone else was comfortable before I even checked in with myself.
And while I never lost myself completely, I definitely softened parts of me to fit certain spaces.
But eventually, that gets exhausting.
And honestly? It gets boring.
There comes a point when your soul starts tapping you on the shoulder saying, "Hey… remember me?"
That's where the shift begins.
How the F*ck It Cards Helped Me Begin
For me, the F*ck It Cards started as something fun. Something I created for my friends. A little sass, a little truth, a little divine nudge wrapped in humor.
But the more I pulled cards and actually lived them, the more I realized they were helping me practice something deeper:
Fully choosing myself out loud.
Not in a selfish way. Not in a reckless way. In a truthful way.
Because saying "F*ck it" doesn't mean you stop caring.
It means you stop handing your power to everybody else's opinions.
It means you stop shrinking so other people feel better. It means you stop waiting for the perfect timing, the perfect plan, the perfect version of yourself.
It means you begin.
Messy. Brave. Real. Maybe with coffee in one hand and a mild identity crisis in the other.
But you begin.
What Would You Do If You Stopped Holding Back?
So this July, maybe the question is not:
"Am I allowed?"
Maybe the question is:
"What would I do if I stopped holding back?"
Because you are allowed to want more joy. You are allowed to change direction. You are allowed to be proud of yourself. You are allowed to laugh loudly, love deeply, and live a life that actually feels like yours.
You already have permission to be yourself. No committee vote required.
Cheers to F*ck It Magic,
Bre
